We have three age divisions with age ranges from 6-15 but we can make exceptions for mature kids or older children who want to participate. Please contact us to see if it's still possible for your child to particiapte if they are over or under our age range.
Yes! The YMCA will do a swim test the first swim practice and those who are not at a certain level of swimming will be required to wear a life vest. There likely will be several swimmers with lifevests participting.
We want it to be possible for all children who want to participate to be able to participate. If your child doesn't have a bike but wants to be part of the 6-week training please contact us. We will try to arrange a way for them to have one to use.
The training sessions last about 1 hour. Training days that will likely run longer are the first training day, the first training day with swimming, and the full practice triathlon day.
Yes! Please plan on staying for the training sessions. This is for safty and for support. You are your child's biggest encourager.
Bring a camping chair, some water, and your cheerleader voice. Make this a family affair. This is also a great time for you to make some new friends!
To qualify for a free bike your child must attend at least 5 out of the 6 training sessions and complete their practice at home log book. (this will be explained more on the first training day)
Absolutley! Training wheels are welcome.
We alot a certain amount to spend on bike for older children divisions and a certain amount for younger children divisions.
A week before race day we will go to Walmart (they will be informed ahead of time to have lots of bikes to choose from) and children will get to choose their new bike within the spending limit.
If parents want to put money toward a more expensive bike to make up the difference-they are more than welcome to do so.
If your child is one of the first 50 to sign up for the 6-week training it is FREE. This includes triathlon day registraion, t-shirt, participation gift, and if they complete their training, a new bike.
For those who participate in just the race day, the triathlon is $25 per child, $20 per additional child in the same household. This will include the triathlon day registration, t-shirt, and participation gift.
